South Brisbane have overcome a formidable Valleys contingent to claim a nail-biting two wicket win at Peter Easton Oval. Faced with the likes of Test star Usman Khawaja and fellow Queensland Bulls squad members Jack Wildermuth, Luke Feldman, Mark Steketee and Lachlan Pfeffer the visitors rallied and changed the direction of the match at various stages for a gutsy second win of the season. An inspired all-round effort from captain Ben Cutting along with a great day-out from Callum Taylor laid the platform for Souths as their opposition were punished for failing to capitalise in strong positions with the bat and ball.

Inspired performances from Sam Truloff and Blake Edwards have guided Western Suburbs to a hard-fought 47-run victory over the Sunshine Coast at Graceville on Sunday, completing an unbeaten weekend for the reigning First Grade Premiers. Backing up from their convincing batting performance against Valleys the day prior, Wests were forced to work for the result after the Coast got off to a strong start before young quick Edwards changed the momentum of the contest on his way to a four-wicket haul. Set 257 for their third win of the season the Sunshine Coast innings got off to an intimidating start. http://premier.qld.cricket.com.au/pageitem.aspx?id=147035&id2=1&eID=12832&entityID=12832
A thrilling run chase has ended with Sandgate-Redcliffe claiming a hard fought 12-run victory over Northern Suburbs at Ian Healy Oval - their third straight win to kickstart the season. Despite a valiant half-century from Wally Wright, Norths ultimately paid the price for the loss of early wickets as former QLD Bulls and WA Warriors paceman Nathan Rimmington led the visitors attack. The Gators paceman turned in a fine all-round performance, notching a quick-fire 42 with the bat before his 2/36 off 9.2 overs put the brakes on Norths tantalising fightback. http://premier.qld.cricket.com.au/pageitem.aspx?id=146600&id2=1&eID=12832&entityID=12832
It was a comprehensive return to the winners circle for Western Suburbs after the reigning First Grade Premiers cruised to a six-wicket triumph over Toombul in Round 2 of the Kookaburra First Grade Limited Overs competition. On the back of half-centuries from Chris Sabburg and Sam Truloff, Wests were dominant in the resounding win, bouncing back from their round one loss to University and kickstarting their 2017/18 campaign in style. Eclipsing their opponent’s total in the 39th over, the collective display garnered a well-deserved bonus-point for the home side, handing Toombul their second significant loss in the opening exchanges of the season. http://premier.qld.cricket.com.au/pageitem.aspx?id=146323&id2=1&eID=12832&entityID=12832
The University of Queensland have picked up where they left off last season’s Kookaburra Limited Overs Competition, defeating Western Suburbs by eight wickets in the first round of the Queensland Premier Cricket Competition at WEP Harris Oval. Reigniting their rivalry that saw the two sides meet in the 50-over and four-day competition deciders, it was Uni who took the early bragging rights in the 2017/18 season with a comprehensive start to the summer. First game skipper Scott Henry was the star of the show, the opening batsman scoring a brilliant unbeaten 102 to comfortably guide his side home. Set 222 for the win, the former New South Wales Blues & QLD Bulls batsman struck 13 boundaries during his stay at the crease including three sixes - the last of which brought up the winning runs. |
