http://premier.qld.cricket.com.au/pageitem.aspx?id=147078&id2=1&eID=12832&entityID=12832 Inspired performances from Sam Truloff and Blake Edwards have guided Western Suburbs to a hard-fought 47-run victory over the Sunshine Coast at Graceville on Sunday, completing an unbeaten weekend for the reigning First Grade Premiers. Backing up from their convincing batting performance against Valleys the day prior, Wests were forced to work for the result after the Coast got off to a strong start before young quick Edwards changed the momentum of the contest on his way to a four-wicket haul. Set 257 for their third win of the season the Sunshine Coast innings got off to an intimidating start. Half-centuries from opening batsmen Alecz Day (60 off 58) and Peter Dein (57) laid a promising foundation for the visitors as they comfortably moved to 1/108 before a brutal cameo from the inform Kobe Francis-Griggs (36 off 28 deliveries) had the Coast looking ominous.
However when Edwards came into the attack the nature of the match shifted dramatically. In an inspired spell of 4/33 from his seven overs, Edwards speed and length troubled the opposition batsmen as the pressure began to mount - sending their opponents from a comfortable position to a treacherous 7/188. The collapse proved fatal to the Sunshine Coast’s cause as Ashley Poole was run-out for 1 to extend Wests winning run to three consecutive triumphs. Earlier Truloff dominated the home side’s innings with another elegant display after Wests won the toss and elected to bat in clear conditions. Continuing on from his unbeaten 123 yesterday, the Queensland Bulls hopeful struck seven boundaries in his classy knock of 94 - including one six - to register his third score in excess of 50 from just four outings this season. Sharing in significant partnerships with Steven Paulsen (23 off 34) and Anthony Atkinson (49 off 61), Truloff continued his outstanding start to the 2017/18 summer as he chases an extended stint in the Sheffield Shield side. With 306 runs at an average of 153.00, the 24-year-old No.3 appears set for another big season as Wests continue their pursuit of back-to-back First Grade titles. Western Suburbs 8/256 (S Truloff 94, A Atkinson 49; A Day 2/36) defeated Sunshine Coast 209 (A Day 60, P Dein 57; B Edwards 4/33, P Dooley 2/34)
