THE enormity of how the coronavirus pandemic has decimated sporting codes has not really sunk in for Coen Hess. But having put in such determined training efforts at Cowboys HQ, he and his teammates are not about to let the hard work go to waste. Hess has cut an imposing figure courtesy of his offseason efforts. However, with gyms closed under the health guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19, he has had to turn to other avenues to maintain the physique, strength and fitness he gained. Fortunately, the 23-year-old did not have far to travel.

IT WAS with a heavy heart that North Queensland Cowboys chairman Lewis Ramsay announced the widespread standing down of club staff. But from this harrowing chapter in the rugby league’s history came a powerful message: “We will survive.” In response to the NRL’s decision to suspend the 2020 season, more than 50 Cowboys staff members were stood down from their roles with a skeleton staff retain to handle administrative duties. It has meant the majority of the club’s administrative team and football department — including coach Paul Green and director of football Peter Parr — are without roles for the foreseeable future. https://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/sport/nrl/cowboys/cowboys-coach-paul-green-says-this-too-shall-pass-in-the-face-of-a-mass-staff-clean-out/news-story/99da271bb1a8984c1e9662f1f0531e70
THERE is a saying Paul Green believes is paramount to remember at this time – “this too shall pass”. While rugby league’s future continues to be shrouded in mystery amid the coronavirus crisis that has crippled sport across the globe, the Cowboys coach said now was the time to stand strong with this message. Green’s own tenure with the club at this point is up in the air following the NRL’s suspension of the 2020 season. But he said he would keep preparing himself and his players so that when the day comes they can take the field they will be ready. https://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/sport/nrl/cowboys/the-world-is-changing-everyday-and-josh-mcguire-is-using-that-to-be-at-his-best/news-story/436b2507d8db69712b492a4d9d23b8ab
THE world is changing every day, Josh McGuire says, as the coronavirus situation morphs into a crisis. That is why the Cowboys prop is relishing every opportunity he is afforded to get on to the field. McGuire announced his return to the field with trademark aggression and energy in Thursday’s win over the Bulldogs. https://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/sport/nrl/cowboys/taumalolos-dominance-puts-bulldogs-to-the-sword-in-cowboys-first-win/news-story/e9ea175725c2de16cfb3113967b86e8f
DEATH, taxes and Jason Taumalolo dominance. There are few things more reliable than what the Cowboys’ lock brings to the field. As the coronavirus pandemic clouds sport in mystery and confusion it was refreshing to see that, when it comes to the Tongan skipper, some things never change. Taumalolo was unstoppable as North Queensland marched to their first win of the season against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. From his first carry he terrorised the home side, and the rest of his forward pack followed suit in the 24-16 win. https://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/sport/nrl/cowboys/the-two-key-moments-that-caught-michael-morgans-ire/news-story/8948c0a6d5f0372a6a1fffcf002cb9eb
THINGS may not have gone their way, but Cowboys captain Michael Morgan found a positive to take away — they refused to roll over. The halfback cut a disappointed figure after his side’s round one loss to the Brisbane Broncos, his persona that of a man hurt by the ultimately disheartening end to what was an intoxicating build up. But there were two key moments he alluded to that, while he acknowledged were not the sole cause of the loss, put them on the backfoot at various stages. https://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/sport/nrl/cowboys/the-game-has-a-different-feel-to-it-but-paul-green-is-not-feeling-the-pressure-as-a-result/news-story/2ee3a93fb8cb9a4efa1db6505d4a440f
ANTHONY Seibold attempted to heap pressure on the Cowboys ahead of round one. Smoke and mirrors — that is all it is to Paul Green. The North Queensland mentor refused to buy into his rival’s notion all the expectation was on his side. Seibold said earlier this week that everyone expected the Cowboys to win at home and that they would be travelling north with no fear. https://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/sport/taumalolo-braces-for-tevita-pangai-and-his-big-friends-in-round-one/news-story/652b809f2965a8fcbebccac2e7f20bcc
JASON Taumalolo is ready for a clash of two mammoth forward packs. Contests between the Cowboys and Broncos are famed for being fiercely fought, often going down to the wire and complete with powerful hits from both sides. The Tongan lock knows this all too well after he came off second best against Tevita Pangai Junior when the two met at Suncorp Stadium last season. https://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/sport/nrl/cowboys/mitchell-dunns-ticket-into-the-cowboys-starting-17/news-story/95231f03cbdf0fb8fe95eb56df9fd8ad
A SHOULDER injury may have derailed his 2019, but the setback has been eradicated from Mitch Dunn’s mind. He is back, fit, firing and ready to state his case as an NRL regular. The adaptable 23-year-old has already gone through the highs and lows of professional football in his fledgling career. https://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/sport/cowboys-move-set-to-be-make-or-break-for-esan-marsters/news-story/039c1743d2a8d04f317516c8d9f08f1c
A MOVE away from the Sydney rugby league cauldron could be the making of Esan Marsters. The Cowboys recruit established himself as one of the game’s premier centres at Wests Tigers. But something was missing, something about his performances in 2019 just did not sit right with the New Zealand international. Marsters believes his output diminished last season, and saw a move outside of his comfort zone as the best way to take his career to the next level. |
