JENNI-SUE Hoepper’s name will forever be etched throughout rugby league history. The first winner of the women’s Dally M Medal has added another chapter to her journey as the inaugural captain of the North Queensland Gold Stars. But, with sights set on the QRLW title, her historic exploits are not done with yet. Hoepper will lead an exciting crop of young talent in the side’s only trial match against the Central Coast Capras in Rockhampton. The likes of fullback Romy Teitzel and forward Riutoto Te Hiko have shown the Indigenous All Stars No. 7 that the team’s prospects are not only strong in 2020 but the seasons to come.

SAM Hoare is chasing that winning feeling again. Luckless with injuries, the former Cowboy is on track to return to the field for the Townsville Blackhawks in the early stages of the 2020 season. Last year he returned from an ACL injury and was enjoying a stellar run of form, only to tear the ligament again in June. While it has been a challenging road, the drive has never left the 28-year-old to get back to his best as he sets his sights on a round three return. https://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/sport/local-sport/nrl-drive-still-alive-for-townsville-blackhawks-latest-star-recruit/news-story/2dc39833a1265fee2e2ebc6126e5361e
THERE is still a determined drive in Josh Hoffman to return to the NRL. But there are some things more important than football for the 31-year-old, which ultimately fuelled his decision to sign with the Townsville Blackhawks. The former Parramatta Eels utility back had been in discussions to re-sign with the Sydney club for the 2020 season. But as the father of two young daughters, Mackay-born Hoffman said he needed to focus on life after his rugby league career. And with his family’s future in mind, should his form warrant an NRL call up, the North Queensland Cowboys could be the only possible beneficiary. https://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/sport/local-sport/confidence-renewed-flame-ignited-carlin-anderson-firms-for-a-big-year/news-story/0a94ddc0a305887ab7fc28b5633a0809
CARLIN Anderson refuses to give up on his dream of a start in the NRL. And he believes Blackhawks coach Aaron Payne could hold the key to unlocking an opportunity. After joining the Townsville club, 2020 is set to be a year of redemption for the former Cowboy. A tumultuous 2019 season with the Mackay Cutters came with its setbacks — a devastating injury shook his confidence and led to positional switches. It eventuated in his contract with the North Queensland Cowboys not being renewed. https://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/sport/local-sport/with-a-child-on-the-way-and-an-opportunity-in-front-of-him-the-blackhawks-new-signing-is-primed-for-a-big-year/news-story/1a261257eca7d42bd562aae72a05a67e
EVERYTHING pointed to a return to the North for Pat Kaufusi. Unable to secure an NRL contract, the former North Queensland Cowboy has returned to the Townsville Blackhawks determined to make his mark and force himself back to into the first-grade fray. With he and his partner Amy expecting their first child in June, and family support close by, the stars had aligned for a comeback. Now Kaufusi is intent on using his NRL experience to help guide the Blackhawks to the Intrust Super Cup premiership. https://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/sport/local-sport/a-desire-for-change-inspires-move-for-blackhawks-recruit/news-story/a6b59bf55a3208694cf67ade02dec23e
IT WAS the opportunity to experience something new that enticed Moses Meninga to the Townsville Blackhawks. The Papua New Guinean giant is already at home and ready to take the North Queensland outfit to greater heights in 2020. The imposing lock brings a stacked resume to his new side, complete with international outings for the Kumuls and an Intrust Super Cup premiership with the PNG Hunters. But the idea of a fresh start excited the Kuiya Village product, who believes the change could be the catalyst for an NRL pursuit. |
