https://www.brisbaneheat.com.au/news/match-report/heat-suffer-second-loss-to-renegades/2017-12-23 It was a tumultuous afternoon for the Brisbane Heat in the WBBL, decimated by a lively bowling performance from the Melbourne Renegades to go down by ten wickets at Etihad Stadium. Looking to make amends for a disappointing fade-out in yesterdays match up with their Victorian rivals, the Heat were starved of runs and momentum from the opening over, as the hosts contingent shared the workload to complete a disappointing double header for the Queenslanders. Chasing just 67 for victory, a Renegades triumph was never in doubt as the opening partnership of Sophie Molineux (45) and Chamari Atapattu (20) cruised home with ease; both remaining unbeaten in a comprehensive display.
Molineux looked particularly imposing with bat in hand, striking six boundaries — highlighted by a crisply timed six — to steer her side to the resounding win. Having elected to bat after winning the toss, the Heat looked to turn their fortunes with the willow that saw them forfeit their stranglehold of Friday’s contest. However when skipper Kirby Short was cleaned up on the second ball of the match by Lea Tahuhu (2-10), the Brisbane side were forced onto the back-foot from the outset, as a devastating precession of wickets saw them collapse in a heap. Seemingly, their prospects rested with Southern Star Beth Mooney, who showed impressive touch in the two sides previous encounter at the top of the order. It wasn’t to be against a Renegades outfit riding a wave of momentum. After Laura Wolvaardt continued her lean start to her maiden Big Bash campaign, Mooney followed soon after for 11 as Maitlan Brown knocked back her pegs. After the visitors last hope of resistance — West Indian ace, Deandra Dottin — became Tahuhu’s second victim, the Heat had slumped to 5-39 as their ambitions for a competitive total were snuffed out by their meticulous counterparts. Renegades captain and New Zealand allrounder, Amy Satterthwaite, was the pick of the home side’s attack, claiming 2-5 in what has been an impressive tournament for the Kiwi drawcard in all facets of the game. Limping into the 17th over of the innings, Molly Strano continued her disciplined form that saw her tear through the Heat’s middle order at Camberwell Sports Ground, beating Jemma Barsby all ends up to finish with 2-13 (complimenting yesterdays figures of 3-16) and the Heat’s innings at a meagre 66. It leaves the Brisbane girls with plenty of work to do after Christmas to remain a force in WBBL03, where they next take on the Adelaide Strikers on December 29.
