https://www.dailymercury.com.au/news/whiz-kids-incredible-mackay-eisteddfod-performance/3564532/ FOR Regan Walker, performing on the stage is just another day. Exceptionally rehearsed in dance, musical theatre and everything performing arts, the talented 15-year-old stole the show at the 2018 Mackay eisteddfod, his achievements recognised with the Kevin Anderson Memorial Trophy as the most outstanding performer across the competition. In three weeks, Regan placed in 45 of the 47 performances he featured in - as a soloist and a group member - in what has been his most comprehensive and lucrative competition calendar yet. His enviable dedication has most prominently been showcased through his ballet performances, where the training and strength of character required has challenged Regan throughout the year. And yet far from deterring him, the challenge has only made him work that much harder, lauding his victory as his greatest achievement among the many accolades he has earned. "I wanted the championship, I wanted this more than anything else,” Regan said. "Everyone thinks ballet is for girls...but to step up and win it, I was happy. The young star has already set his sights on the glamours of Broadway, and he has been actively participating in national and regional musicals at every available opportunity.
While his career may be short, it has been illustrious to say the least, highlighted by his performance as Nigel in the 2015/16 production of Matilda in Sydney. His pursuit of stardom has been shared by his family, with the ten-month long production forcing a relocation south of the Tweed for Regan and his mum, Lesa. "We went down for auditions thinking it was just going to be an experience for us,” Ms Walker said. "Three rounds (of auditions) later, the numbers kept getting smaller and smaller and we were still there. "It was challenging to say the least, but ever so rewarding.” Regan has been plying his talents at the Aspire Performing Arts Studio in Mount Pleasant, run by the mother-daughter combination of Stella and Kyra Geoghegan. The family flavour has clearly had an impact on Regan, who has leaned on each word of advice the pairing have passed down. Ms Walker has praised the dedication of both her son and his two instructors, saying that the influence of the studio has been paramount to Regan's recent success. "It's been rather overwhelming this year, but I'm just amazed at his work ethic,” she said. "As a parent...the discipline he is committing is a great achievement.” He may be exhausted, but Regan will be on song for one final performance, where he will play a prominent role in Aspire's end of year spectacle on December 2nd. Tickets will be available at the MECC
