https://www.dailymercury.com.au/news/doctors-mov-ing-efforts/3593889/ FOR the past eleven years Dr Sanjeev Bandi has dedicated his upper lip in support of the Movember Foundation and men's health. His passion for the cause has been inspiring to behold, and the efforts of the Mackay urologist have set the standard in Australia; accumulating $335,321 since 2008 with the support of his dedicated patients. Off his own lip, Dr Bandi raised $57,551 this year to become Australia's most lucrative contributor for a fourth consecutive year, and sixth worldwide. Dr Bandi alluded to the prevalence of men's health in Mackay, and praised the astounding devotion of the region. "I deal with men's health all the time, it's what I do for a living (and) Mackay has the highest rate of youth suicide in the country - 8.9 times the national average,” Dr Bandi said. "People don't support something four weeks before Christmas when things are tight... (but) people can see that what I've done has changed so many people's live. For me that says a lot about the town. Dr Bandi has garnered community support as part of the MOV~ing Mackay Cricket Club, which formed in 2011.
This year the group combined to raise more than $88,000 between its 22 members, and this profound achievement has seen them dwarf efforts by a host of powerhouse businesses; including Rio Tinto and the AFL. Dr Bandi's unfathomable efforts resulted in an invitation to the New York Marathon on November 4 as one of 25 people worldwide called upon to spread awareness for men's health. Icon Cancer centre have rallied behind his resounding exploits, and Mackay site manager Brock Ditton praised Dr Bandi's diligent endeavour. "Being able to support Movember alongside Dr Bandi, who has continued to lead the way within this community, is an honour,” Mr Ditton said. "Icon supports events like Movember to show our support to the many cancer patients we treat every day and raise funds for men going through these health issues.” However, as Dr Bandi humbly puts it, the praise belongs by and large to the Mackay community. "I don't think for a minute I've done a great job; for me if the community didn't support what I was doing I wouldn't be in this situation,” Dr Bandi said. "It tells volumes about the community more than anything else. If you take that the last four years have been Mackay's worst years economically, and I've been Australia's highest fundraiser for four years four weeks before Christmas... if that doesn't tell you this is God's country I don't know what does.
